The Dream I Gave Up

I wanted to be a dancer. From the time I was three years old, all I wanted to do was spin and leap and float across a stage.\n\nWhen I was sixteen, I auditioned for a prestigious dance school. I trained for months, pushed my body to its limits.\n\nI didn't get in.\n\nThe rejection letter arrived on a Tuesday. I stopped dancing after that. I told myself it was childish, impractical.\n\nFor fifteen years, I didn't dance. Not once.\n\nThen I signed up for an adult ballet class. I was thirty-one, out of shape, and terrified. But the moment I walked into the studio and smelled the familiar mix of sweat and rosin, something inside me woke up.\n\nAt the end of class, we did a simple combination across the floor. For thirty seconds, I was a dancer again.\n\nI still go to that class, every week. I'll never be a professional. But some dreams don't have to be careers. They can just be things that make you feel alive.
