The Proposal

I proposed to my girlfriend on a Tuesday, in our kitchen, while she was making pasta. No candlelight dinner, no ring in a champagne glass. I was chopping vegetables and realized I couldn't imagine doing this with anyone else.\n\n"Hey," I said.\n\n"Yeah?" She was stirring the sauce.\n\n"I think we should get married."\n\nShe turned around, spatula in hand, sauce splattered on her apron. "Are you serious?"\n\n"Completely."\n\nShe laughed, then cried, then said yes. We celebrated with slightly burned pasta.\n\nWe've been married for five years now. We've had arguments and challenges. But I've never regretted that Tuesday afternoon.\n\nLove isn't about perfect moments. It's about choosing someone, over and over, even when the pasta is burning.
