My Father's Gift

The day Alex died, the world didn't stop. The sun still rose. Birds still sang. But my world collapsed. Alex was my best friend. We laughed until we cried. I remember how they laughed like it was yesterday. Now I talk to Alex when I visit a coffee shop. I know they can't hear me. But saying it out loud makes it feel real. Grief is love with nowhere to go.
