The Diagnosis II

The radiologist called on a Thursday afternoon. "We found something on your mammogram. We need you to come in for further tests."\n\nThose words echoed in my head for three days. I didn't sleep. I didn't eat.\n\nThe biopsy was painful. The waiting was worse. Ten days of not knowing.\n\nWhen the doctor finally called, I was at work. I stepped into the empty conference room.\n\n"It's benign. You're fine."\n\nI slid down the wall and sat on the floor, crying with relief.\n\nThat was two years ago. I think about it often — how a routine mammogram turned into the longest ten days of my life. I'm grateful for the scare that reminded me how precious health is.\n\nLadies, get your mammograms. Don't skip them.
