The Photograph

I found an old photograph of my parents on their wedding day. They were standing in front of a courthouse, my mother in a simple white dress, my father in a suit that was too big. They looked happy.\n\nThey divorced when I was ten.\n\nFor years, I thought that photograph was a lie. How could two people who looked so happy end up hating each other?\n\nBut now I'm older, and I understand. They were happy that day. They loved each other that day. People change. Love changes.\n\nI keep the photograph on my nightstand. Not because I believe in fairy-tale endings. But because it reminds me that happiness is real, even if it doesn't last forever.\n\nIt's still real.\n\nAnd that's enough.
