The Diagnosis III

I found a lump in my breast while showering. Just a small one, nothing significant. I almost ignored it.\n\nBut I didn't. I made an appointment.\n\nThe biopsy was uncomfortable. The waiting was unbearable.\n\nWhen the doctor called, she said, "It's cancer."\n\nI felt the world tilt. Everything I knew — my job, my plans, my future — suddenly felt fragile, temporary.\n\nTreatment was brutal. Chemo every three weeks. Radiation every day. I lost my hair, my energy, my appetite. Some days I couldn't get out of bed.\n\nBut I also discovered things I didn't know I had. A strength I didn't know I possessed. A network of friends and family who showed up in ways I never expected.\n\nMy sister flew across the country to be with me. My coworkers donated their sick days. My neighbor walked my dog.\n\nI'm in remission now. The lump is gone. But the experience changed me.\n\nI don't sweat the small stuff anymore. I tell people I love them. I take the trip. I buy the flowers.\n\nCancer is a terrible gift. But it's a gift nonetheless — a reminder that life is precious, fleeting, and worth fighting for.
